This is a painted box I made (featured--FOR SALE--in my Etsy shop here: [link]).

The box measures 6.25 inches by 3.5 inches, and is 3 inches tall. It displays my own original design, featuring Jack Pumpkinhead (first introduced in L. Frank Baum\'s book The Marvelous Land of Oz) lying among pumpkins, hand-painted in rich acrylics, accented with woodcut-style etching in ink, and a gold-leafing border.

Jack is depicted exactly as he is first described in the book--made of tree limbs and sporting a happy expression on his carved pumpkin head. He is portrayed wearing his first outfit--a red shirt, pink polka-dotted vest, purple trousers, stockings and shoes; appropriately mismatched, as one would expect a pumpkinhead to be! He is surrounded by that which he was created from--pumpkins! A healthy bunch of pumpkins lie around Jack--who seems quite content in his own quirky way, precisely where he is! The rectangular portrait is bordered with a thin line of gold leafing all around it, save for where Jack\'s foot is stubbornly jutting out! :P
It\'s all preserved under a generous layer of clear, shiny satin varnish.

The inside is lined with plaid fabric in crisp warm colors, complimenting the warmth of the portrait, and the bottom of the box displays my shop name, as well as my signature, and a little emerald brush (like my shop name!).

The box was deconstructed and well-prepared with acrylic gesso before it was painted. Then every speck of it was hand-painted, hand-varnished, and reassembled (the hinges reattached). It was then meticulously lined with fabric. All work done by hand.
